Why Anxious Patients Choose MySmile

Multiple sedation options, real comfort amenities, and a team that takes dental anxiety seriously.

Two Sedation Options, Not Just One

Some offices only offer nitrous oxide. Dr. Bhatia offers both nitrous and oral sedation so she can match the level of relaxation to your level of anxiety and the complexity of the procedure.

Comfort Options Beyond Sedation

Even without sedation, we provide noise-cancelling headphones, blankets, a handheld relaxation device, and entertainment on overhead screens. Many anxious patients find these are enough on their own.

Get More Done in Fewer Visits

Sedation makes it possible to complete multiple procedures in a single visit. Patients who need several crowns, fillings, or extractions can have everything done at once instead of coming back multiple times.

No Judgment, Just Solutions

Dental anxiety is common, and Dr. Bhatia treats it as a real concern, not something to push through. She will talk you through your options and let you decide what level of comfort you need.

Evening Appointments Available

Open until 7 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If you need sedation for an evening appointment, we can accommodate that. Oral sedation patients should plan to have their driver available.

Experienced with Anxious Patients

A significant portion of Dr. Bhatia's patients come specifically because they have dental anxiety. She has years of experience helping fearful patients get the care they have been putting off.

What to Expect at a Sedation Appointment

If you choose nitrous oxide, the process is simple. A small nose mask delivers a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen while Dr. Bhatia works. You will feel calm and relaxed within minutes. You stay awake and can communicate throughout the procedure. When treatment is finished, you breathe pure oxygen for about five minutes and the effects wear off completely. You can drive yourself home and go about your day normally.

For oral sedation, you will take a prescribed pill the night before your appointment and another pill one hour before arriving. By the time you sit down in the chair, you will already feel relaxed and drowsy. You will remain conscious but deeply calm, and you may not remember much of the procedure afterward. Because the medication takes several hours to fully wear off, you will need someone to drive you home, and you should plan to rest for the remainder of the day.

Regardless of which option you choose, Dr. Bhatia will also provide comfort amenities like noise-cancelling headphones, blankets, and your choice of shows or movies on the overhead screen. Many patients tell us the combination of sedation and these extras makes the experience completely different from what they expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of sedation does MySmile Dental Care offer?

We offer two types of sedation: nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small nose mask and wears off in about five minutes. Oral sedation involves a prescription pill taken the night before and one hour before your appointment for deeper relaxation. We do not offer IV sedation at this location.

Will I be asleep during the procedure?

No, you will not be fully asleep with either option. With nitrous oxide, you are awake and relaxed. You may remember parts of the procedure but not all of it. With oral sedation, you will be in a deeper state of relaxation and may remember very little. Both options keep you conscious enough to respond to Dr. Bhatia during treatment.

Can I drive myself home after sedation?

It depends on the type of sedation. With nitrous oxide, yes. After five minutes of breathing pure oxygen, the effects are completely gone and you can drive yourself home. With oral sedation, no. The pills cause drowsiness that lasts several hours, so you must have someone drive you to and from the appointment.

How do I prepare for a sedation appointment?

For nitrous oxide, no special preparation is needed. Just show up for your appointment. For oral sedation, you will take one pill the night before and another pill one hour before the procedure. You should arrange for someone to drive you to and from the office, and plan to rest for the remainder of the day.

What procedures can be done with sedation?

Sedation is available for most dental procedures. Dr. Bhatia commonly recommends it for multiple extractions, quadrant dentistry (several crowns or fillings in one area), and for patients with significant dental anxiety regardless of the procedure. If you want sedation for a routine cleaning, that is an option too.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes. Both nitrous oxide and oral sedation have long safety records in dentistry. Nitrous oxide has been used for over 150 years and is considered one of the safest forms of sedation available. Oral sedation uses FDA-approved medications at carefully calculated doses. Dr. Bhatia monitors you throughout the procedure and will review your medical history beforehand to ensure sedation is appropriate for you.

Who should not receive sedation?

Most healthy adults are good candidates for sedation. However, patients with certain respiratory conditions like severe COPD may not be good candidates for nitrous oxide. Oral sedation may not be appropriate for patients taking certain medications or those with liver conditions. Pregnant women should generally avoid sedation. Dr. Bhatia will review your medical history and current medications to determine which option is safe for you.

How much does sedation dentistry cost?

Nitrous oxide typically costs $50 to $150 per visit. Oral sedation usually ranges from $150 to $500 depending on the length and complexity of the procedure. Many dental insurance plans cover part of the sedation cost, especially when it is medically necessary. We also offer financing through Cherry, CareCredit, Sunbit, and LendingClub for any remaining balance.
