Why Anaheim Hills Patients Choose MySmile for Cleanings
Thorough cleanings, gum disease monitoring, and a preventive approach that saves you money long-term.
Thorough, Unhurried Cleanings
Our hygienists take the time to do a thorough cleaning, not a rushed 20-minute appointment. Every surface is cleaned, tartar is removed from hard-to-reach areas, and your teeth are polished smooth. You leave feeling like your mouth had a real cleaning.
Oral Cancer Screening at Every Visit
Every cleaning appointment includes a visual oral cancer screening. Dr. Bhatia checks your mouth, tongue, throat, and neck for any signs of abnormalities. Early detection is critical and this screening takes just a few minutes during your regular visit.
Gum Disease Caught Early
Regular cleanings are the best way to catch gum disease before it causes serious damage. Dr. Bhatia measures your gum pockets at each visit to monitor for signs of periodontal disease. If gum disease is detected, she will recommend the appropriate treatment before it progresses to tooth loss.
Deep Cleanings When Needed
If you have tartar buildup below the gumline or signs of gum disease, a standard cleaning is not enough. Scaling and root planing goes deeper to clean the areas a routine cleaning cannot reach. We also offer Perio Restore home therapy and Arestin antibiotic treatment for persistent gum infections.
Evening Appointments Available
Open until 7 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Routine cleanings take about 45 minutes to an hour, making an evening appointment easy to fit into your schedule.
Preventive Focus Saves You Money
A cleaning twice a year is one of the least expensive things you can do at the dentist, and it prevents cavities, gum disease, and other problems that cost significantly more to treat. Most insurance covers preventive cleanings at 100% with no out-of-pocket cost.

What Happens During a Dental Cleaning
A routine cleaning starts with the hygienist using a scaler to remove plaque and hardened tartar (calculus) from all tooth surfaces, including along and just below the gumline. This is the part that brushing and flossing at home cannot do, no matter how thorough you are. Tartar can only be removed with professional instruments.
After scaling, the hygienist polishes your teeth with a gritty paste that removes surface stains and leaves your teeth smooth. Smooth teeth are harder for plaque to cling to between visits. Professional flossing follows to clean between all teeth and check for areas where your flossing at home might be missing.
Finally, a fluoride treatment is applied to strengthen your enamel and provide extra cavity protection until your next visit. Dr. Bhatia then does a full exam, checks your x-rays (taken annually or as needed), measures your gum pockets, and screens for oral cancer. The entire appointment takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

How much does a dental cleaning cost in Anaheim Hills?
A routine dental cleaning typically costs $100 to $250 without insurance. Most dental insurance plans cover two preventive cleanings per year at 100%, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for you. Deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) cost more, typically $150 to $350 per quadrant, and insurance usually covers 50% to 80%. Contact our office at (714) 998-4151 for specific pricing.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Most adults should get a professional cleaning every six months. If you have gum disease or a history of periodontal problems, Dr. Bhatia may recommend cleanings every three to four months to keep the condition under control. Patients with excellent oral health and no risk factors may be able to go slightly longer between cleanings, but six months is the standard recommendation.
What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular (prophylactic) cleaning removes plaque and tartar from above and just below the gumline. It is preventive care for patients with healthy gums. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) goes further, cleaning below the gumline to remove tartar and bacteria from the roots of the teeth. It is a treatment for gum disease, not just routine maintenance. Deep cleanings usually require numbing and are done over two visits.
Does a deep cleaning hurt?
The area is numbed with local anesthesia before a deep cleaning, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. You may experience some sensitivity, soreness, or mild bleeding for a few days afterward as your gums heal. Nitrous oxide is available if you need additional relaxation. For a detailed look at what to expect, read our article on whether deep cleaning is painful.
What happens if I have not had a cleaning in years?
No judgment. It is very common for adults to go years between dental visits. If it has been a while, Dr. Bhatia will do a full exam and x-rays to assess your current situation. You may need a deep cleaning instead of a routine one if tartar has built up significantly or if gum disease is present. The important thing is to start, and we will create a plan that gets you back on track.
Can a dental cleaning remove stains?
Routine cleanings remove surface stains from coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco to some degree, and polishing brightens your teeth. However, a cleaning is not the same as professional whitening. If you want significantly whiter teeth, ask about our teeth whitening options, which can be done at the same visit or scheduled separately.
What is Perio Restore?
Perio Restore is a prescription-strength hydrogen peroxide gel used in custom trays at home to treat gum disease between dental visits. It reduces the bacteria that cause gum inflammation and helps your gums heal. Dr. Bhatia may recommend it as part of a periodontal treatment plan alongside regular deep cleanings and maintenance visits. Learn more in our Perio Restore guide.
Does insurance cover dental cleanings?
Most dental insurance plans cover two routine cleanings per year at 100% as part of preventive care. This means no copay and no deductible for standard cleanings. Deep cleanings are covered as a periodontal treatment, usually at 50% to 80% after your deductible. We verify your benefits before your appointment so you know what to expect.
